Program Outline
Unscheduled absenteeism in the workplace has been increasing for the past number of years and takes concerted effort to manage these issues. While policies may be in place, supervisors need to carefully focus on following a fair, consistent and transparent process. This program will assist participants to understand the complexity of absenteeism in the workplace.

Topics and Activities Include:
• Defining culpable versus non-culpable absenteeism and their impact
• Defining the costs of absenteeism in the workplace
• Identifying early patterns of absence
• Controlling and managing absenteeism – the supervisor’s role
• Conducting the employee counselling interview
• The role policies and procedures play in managing absenteeism
• Fostering an open and supportive workplace culture
• The importance of detailed, accurate, and up-to-date absence records
• Conducting employee absence and return-to-work interviews
• Applying the disciplinary and/or accommodation policies
